Exercise following a shock
Hi All
Sorry for this long message but I need to give some background before asking some questions (if you dont mind)
I had a Medtronic ICD fitted about 2 and a half months ago (dual, pacemaker and defib) following a cardiac incident while out jogging that eventually led to me being shocked in hospital to get my heart rhythm back on track.
Turned out I had Arrthymgenic cardiomyopathy that had finally reached a point of "no return" (was told most likely ju...
Question about sensations during ICD self-check
Hi everyone,
I'm a new club-member and was recently implanted with a Boston Scientific Resonate HF ICD. Whenever the device runs a self-check, I feel a fluttering in my upper chest that extends up through my esophagus to the base of my throat. It's a very unpleasant feeling and has startled me a couple of times while I was driving. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to ask that the self-check feature be disabled when I go to my 3 month follow-up, but in the mea...

Hi, I have been experiencing high heart rates often and for long periods of time. I checked with the remote monitoring team and the data looked good with heart rates of 50 to 60 but occasionally of 120 to 130 but that is expected I am told. I asked about arrhythmias as I feel a flutter when running high. I was told that there was no tachycardia or AF at all right across the range of bpm. They also said that the increase in bpm was being driven by my heart not the device. I went to my loc...
CRT-D vs ICD decision
my father's lvef of 20-25%, got stented in 2017 after a heart attack. last week he had an episode of VT/VF. he is currently on meds on)
one doc suggested CRT-D implantation, other suggested ICD. the second one is a better doc overall.
I asked his assistant is that why not CRTD, she said they will do tests on admission to determine whats best for the patient (crtd or icd)
the admission and surgery is scheduled for monday by the second doc, I am worried that the doc will n...
ICD Safety
Just had a Gallant DR ICD implanted from Abbott Labs. I am concerned about EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) effect on my device from mototcycle riding.
Does anyone have any info on this subject?
New to having an ICD
Hi
Im 47 and from Blackpool UK. I've just had an ICD fitted due to VT heart rhythms and diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Weeks prior to knowing this outcome I was swimming at a competitive level both in pool and open water. I was an active member of a triathlon club and walking the Lake District Wainwright summits.
I know it's early days, 2 weeks post op, but I'm trying to look what I may be able to do in the future after I get the fir...

Weird sensations in device area last few days
Hi. First time posting, thanks for letting me be a member of the group. I have a Medtronic ICD for nonsustained polymorphic VT and electrical storm in the setting of stress. Stable, taking flecainide and nadolol daily. Recent checkups and stress tests have been A-OK, and I have mostly forgotten the ICD is there. But, over the last 4-5 days, I am getting random tickles in the ICD area. Sometimes below the ICD, sometimes to the side, etc. These weird sensations only last 1/2 seco...

Dear all, I want to share my current situation as I would appreciate your comments. I am 24 days post op a CRT-D and things were going well for a couple of weeks as I put in a previous post. Then I started suffering from high heart rates of 85-90 with palpitations which made me feel unwell. On the advice of my cardiologist by email, I went to my GP and she advised that I increase my bisoprolol to 7.5mg (and 8.75mg if the HR didn't drop). I stayed the same for a couple of days and this is...

Hi, I have just joined this community. The information on it is very helpful. I am a retired 66 male in the UK. I had a CRT-D installed 9 days ago. Initially the HR was set at 40 but yesterday they reset it to 55 due to being poorly for a week. I suffer from AF and low heart rates and some pauses. The longest pause was 6 seconds which although I wasn't aware of it, seems a scarcely long time. Since the adjustment to 55 yesterday, I had a couple of light headed moments both whilst sitting...
Earthquake and ICD
Hi Everyone!
I got a ICD implanted 18 months ago, never got a schock. I am 53.
Recently I have been in the Alps and climbed the Montblanc without any incidence or ICD issue.
Before the climb I was of course following a somehow demanding training. No problems have arisen.
Two days after the summit I was riding a e-bike, doing 1/3 of the fatigue I did in previous days, having no symptoms of tachy, breathing normally and nevertheless I got a shock. My first...
ICD Pain
I've had my ICD for 5 years now (after two years with a pacer); and I've been experiencing pain in the area of my icd. Does anyone else experience this? I am also having problems with CAD with a 50% stenosis. I've not been feeling great but this pain is really bothering me. It feels like a sharp, cutting pain. Please let me know if anyone experiences this! Thanks so much!
Life with an ICD
Hi - I recently experienced v-tach while practicing brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ). One of the outcomes from my visit to the ER is that I will need an ICD. In fact, it will be installed this Friday.
While trying to come to terms with how this is impacting my life, I found this site while searching for information about training BJJ with an ICD. Overall, this site seems super helpful and I'm happy to have a forum where I can connect with others. It's very isolating being 37 and being...
Anxiety, Depression and Fatigue
Hello lovely Pacemaker Community,
I am 34 and had an ICD/Pacemaker inserted two weeks ago after recently learning I have Left Ventricular Non Compaction, I've had recurrent syncope with asystole. My recovery is going well except I'm feeling extreme fatigue every day, as well as intermittent anxiety (which is normal for me). I took 3 wks after work (I'm a Certified Nurse Midwife), and expected by now to be feeling so much better, I go for a 30 minute walk every day and t...

Good afternoon all, been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now, and I have to say it's all very informative and supportive. In particular I love the funny and motivational quotes at the end of each post.
I know no one can answer for sure but I'm hoping someone might have some insight into the criteria for an ICD on the NHS. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post.
I (46F) suffered a STEMI on 5th June and was released home 9 days later with an EF of 21%....

do they install stents pushing wires into walls of viens or artieries and if so how does that effect future device changes or wires erviceing. or are the stents intstalled in another location away from all wires and device. thank for info. hope i wasn't to confusing.

Hi folks,
I hope everyone is doing well today! I have one of the new Medtronic Cobalt ICD's since Oct 2022. I have CHF and Afib. I also had the AV Node Ablation done at the same time. I felt better immediately after the procedures!!
I had an EF of 20 and it has gone back up to 32 since Oct. Just had a recent echo. Afib is gone. My low setting is 70bpm. I am young for a device. Just turned 60. I do have the bedside monitor device which reports every 90 days I guess...
an undercover question - Sub Cut ICD
since 2007 I was fitted with a St Jude ICD. Following a recent opperation I got an infection, as a result my device needs to be changed to a Sub-Cut ICD. A sub-cut device is fitted in the under arm area where a bra normally fits. Can anyone advise on which bra you have found comfortable to wear with a sub-cut ICD?

i got my icd implanted in may 2017. for the last 2 weeks i've had tenderness around the device near the bottom where it's near my breast tissue. i haven't hit it or done anything out of the ordinary with it. never had this issue before. my ep retired a few years ago and the new one has months until next available appt. the skin is not red or hot. but i am still concerned. i am not sure if i should be or what i should do.
