Med Alert bracelets

Hi again. I have noticed some banners advertising medic alert bracelets/pendants. I have never been told I needed to wear one.
How do you know you should wear one? Is it a personal choice or medical advisement?

thanks

Clothing question

This one is probably going to be one of the stranger questions posted here.
I volunteer at a historic site (18th century) near my home and ususally wear a set of period clothing when I do. Part of that clothing consists of a corset, not quite the Scarlet O'Hara tight thing of the movies, but it does constrict a little and act like a "pushup" bra. I'm 3 1/2 post op and have not yet tried it on but am concerned that the constriction or "pushing up" might be a problem. I don't see my cardio...

My new pacemaker/defibrillator

Hello everyone. I am a 55 year old woman with a history of Atrial Fib and Mitral Valve prolapse.
I had a mitral valve replacement (mechanical due to my age) June 1 2005. At the time I thought that this was gonna fix me up......well....I waited and waited and never received my strength back after the surgery. I returned to work...but it was extremely hard. My heart was measured at 45 at that time, and by October 2007 it had dropped to 25.
Durring my heart surgery, my surgeon perfor...

medtronic lead class action

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a very long time - since my husband passed away in June (he had a medtronic ICD). My son had been urging me to look into the defective lead lawsuit and for whatever reason I didn't - until last night when I did a search and discovered that the lead in my husband's ICD is one of the #'s that came up as defective. His ICD caused him all kinds of problems and discomfort and he kept saying he felt like there was something wrong with it. Does anyone know...

Re: Meditation

Thanks for all your replies. My PM is set at 60. Maybe there's a conflict going on between my PM and my heart rate. I think there's no way to know except if my doc is willing to monitor me while meditating. That would take about 30 mins. Maybe that could happen. My meditation style is basically Buddhist: simply watching my breath. I'm inclined to believe I'm not harming myself by this process. I think I'm still frightened by these hr alterations since I was beaten up so badly in November...

L@@K!!!!!! Peter N. NEWS!!!!

Greetings everyone,

I have good news of our dear friend Peter N. He is feeling better, in fact Nina reports that he is chatting up the nurses! This is a very good sign! He should be home in a few days.
When he is strong enough, he then will be able to share with us his story.

I believe that Peter would not mind if I say for him, "Thank you everyone for your prayers and get well wishes".

I suggest that we continue with whatever it was we were all...

meditation

I'm a new member and a new pm host. I went to the internet to find out about what's happening to my heart/pm when it starts jumping around when I get to a certain point in meditation. It's pretty clear that it's my heart rate going down and kicking in my pm. I've been persisting in the meditation and it seems to settle down, but it occurred to me that doing this might not be good. Googling found a couple of ads for meditation CDs that advised not to use them if one has a pm.
I'll be...

V-tach after pacemaker

I got my pacemahker last June and thought that I was "fixed". It took me awhile to adjust to the idea that at age 39 I needed a pacemaker but reading everyone's messages here made me realize I was not alone nor was it that unusual for someone my age. I thought when I got the pacemaker that I would suddenly have abundant energy to exercise. Well it definitely helped but it was no quick fix. During an interrogation of my pacemaker about 4 months after I got my pacemaker it was found that I was s...

Trains

Hi! I was wondering if anybody knows if it is safe to ride on trains with the pacemaker. I am taking a trip to Chicago very soon and was just wondering about if I will be able to take the train to the city or if I will have to do the drive. I know it may be a odd question but I know nothing about trains besides they save time.
The only thing that I do know is that kid trains have magnets on them. Horrible I know!
Thanks!

Angiogram

Hello Folks,

I’m sure many of you have heard me during the past year complaining about my problem of exercise induced (my description, not the doctor’s) shortness of breath and an irregular heart beat. Now the doctor wants to perform an angiogram and I go to Scott & White at 7:30 AM on Monday, 2-18-08. From information obtained from that procedure they will:

1 - Do nothing more, or
2 - Perform an angioplasty, or
3 - Perform an angioplasty and implant a stent, or...
