Dance pacemaker

I got my pm two weeks ago. I Belly Dance and am concerned about the upper body movements and if it would dislodge the leads. Has anyone done this after placement? My docs say I can go back to exercise (and dance) but I question how many of their patients have belly danced after surgery. Thoughts?

Pushups and Rowing Machine

I had a pacemeker installed on February 18, 2014, approximately 8 months ago. Pacemaker is working fine, on demand setting and activates only 2% of the time when my heartbeat goes below 40 per minute.

I am still uncomfortable/tight in the pacemaker site but that will probably be something that I willl have to live with.
Prior to the pacemaker (I am age 67) I did 20 pushups a day and used my rowing machine twice a week for 15/20 minutes a session.
Rowing and pushups will pu...

Backpack Straps

Anyone had any experience wearing a backpack? I am going to do some serious hiking, and I would like to know if I need to be worried that the shoulder strap will go just about over my pacemaker.

Anyone NOT on Meds & Have a Device?

Anyone not on beta blockers and have a device (ICD) for tachycardia and are you active regularly and doing well?

I had a sustained vt in April 2014, which docs believe to have been caused by a bout of Myocarditis. I have an ICD and on Sotalol 80mg. I have been running regularly and monitoring my HR with a HRM. I no longer run intensly nor race, just go out for easy runs of 3-5 miles a pop. My pace is slow, endurance sapped and fatigued from the damn things. Regardless, my docs th...

Calling all ladies

Hi Ladies,
I am just over my 3 month mark of my PM surgery. I have been back to working out (running and yoga) for just about 6 weeks. I find that anything touching my scar or over my PM is very irritating. Is this normal? Will it eventually go away? I unfortunately have to wear a rather supportive bra, especially when run, but I find that my scar gets even more irritated during my yoga practice even if nothing is touching it, between the constant standing and folding, and heart opening pos...

Cycling

I have been a very active cyclist for many years, right up until the day before my PM implant a couple of weeks ago. Just wondering how long I should wait before getting back in the saddle. Also, how do other cyclists maintain their fitness between receiving a PM implant and getting back in the saddle?

Resting HR

Hi, Just looking for comments on a couple of points.
I`m 66 and been active in sport all my life until I started running out of puff a few years ago. Last year I had a mitral and tricuspid valve repair along with a `maze` procedure. They also felt I should be fitted with a CRT-D PM . In general I`ve been quite happy and feel much better. It took quite a few attempts to get the programming correct . Exercise is not a problem now and I know my limits!!
Since the op I seem to suffer from...

Trading in the old model - suggestions?

I'm a 63 year old runner with a 6 year old Biotronik Cylos DR-T. At my appointment with the technician today I found out that I've got 6 months of battery life left. Assuming that the devices today are even more advanced than the one I'm having replaced, does anyone have a recommendation for a "late model" pacer that has worked well for you as a runner? I have 2:1 heart block and my Biotronik pacer has worked well for me, but I don't want to miss out on any advancements that have come along si...

Any restrictions on ....

Pushups, Chin-ups, Dips, or Bench presses with a 3 lead CRT-D installed? I'll ask my EP next time we chat, but that could be awhile. I just had it installed on 9/19/2014, so I do realize that there is a bit more waiting time before these activities should possibly begin.

Thanks! - Dave

Tweaking the device

I have been back to playing hockey for three months and I still am having issues. I've had my device tweaked twice already. The first time they lifted the "governor" for 150 to 180. That helped to some degree. But I was still getting fatigued way too quickly when I played. So, I went back for a 2nd consult with the MFG rep. He seemed to know exactly what I was saying. Things seemed better the next time out. But now I start out strong and then go down hill as time progresses. Even when I...

topping out - reply

Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate the well informed and thoughtful reply. To answer your question, I use a maximum heart rate formula I found in a journal article online:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11153730 The formula is 208 - .7 x age. I came up with 168.8 for myself. I am weighing the risks of surgery versus the benefits of more satisfying exercise and better overall fitness.

topping out

I had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted for av block and bradycardia 19 months ago. I was physically fit before the PM was implanted (biking 20 miles a day, running on weekends, hiking). I have been able to resume these activities and am very grateful for the PM. However, I notice that I "top out" during my runs or bike rides. Basically, I reach a plateau when I am exercising and can't push past it. I notice it particularly when biking or running up a steep pitch. My PM has a maximum HR se...

Marching Band Percussion and Pacemaker

Hi - my son has a pacemaker and he used to be in the marching band - he played percussion instruments so he used to wear the harnesses that carry the mallets (xylophones), bass drums, snare drums. Does anyone know of any harnesses that can be used that won't rest on the pacemaker area? or is his "percussion" marching band days over!!

Any info or any website you can point me to would be greatly appreciated!!!

It is all finally coming together!

Just over two months from my pacemaker surgery, and I have a new goal. Determined to be my doctors first pacemaker patient to run any type of marathon, 1/2 or otherwise. Granted I have an unfair advantage over the competition, being in my 40s and on average decades younger, but it's good to have goals :) Several runs down (albeit slow as molasses to stay within my doctors HR guidelines), still feeling good. First hurdle in sight, 5 mile Turkey Trot!
