Had a chance to try a magnetic latch screen door today. One of those flexible jobs w/ the row of magnets that keep it closed. They are advertized on TV & someone asked about them interacting w/ a PM.
Went through it twice w/ no apparent affect on the PM. Even stopped when it just touched my chest. There was a pair of magnets right where my PM is located.
Not much of a scientific experiment, but at least a data point for those interesting.

I have a pacemaker and also wear a Polar Heart Monitor.
When brisk walking at a track near my home my pacemaker surges periodically during a 2 mile walk. It may rapidly jump from 100 up to 115 bpm then slow come back down. On some occasions is shot up 25 pts before coming back down. I checked my pulse by hand to verify that the monitor is correct and it is giving the correct reading. The track I walk on has high tension wires about 50 years away and also has some solar panels for the lights...

Hi all-
I am new to the site and as a regular home handyman; I have wondered if voltage from stray current could cause problems if you contact a wire. I ran across an article that scared me a little, this letter from Medtronic to a patient that said that if you get an electric shock you could cause your Heart Device to withhold threapy or deliver an unnecessary shock.
Here is the letter:

Hi everyone,,, I was recently in a Vegas casino when I felt like my chest was pounding and I got nauseated and tingly on my left side. Felt bad for two days with extreme exhaustion. Was there for 4 days but only carried a large purse that had a magnetic closure on the last day which is when I had the above symptoms. Didn't think about the purse until I got home and realized that as a left handed person I was holding it up on my left shoulder which would have made the magnet extremely close to...
Salon Hair Dryers?

I've seen all the notes about what to avoid and not to avoid as far as interference goes, but have never seen any reference to a salon hair dryer.
Generally you sit and have the lid put over/around your head. The mechanism is behind you, just an inch from your back where your pacemaker is, so maybe 2 to 3 inches from the PM. Is this safe? I've seen references to hand held hair dryers that say keep them 6 inches from your PM.
Any cautions on this one?

We recently bought a laser printer with a copier and scanner built into the printer. When I read the manual that came with the printer it said "If you are using a cardiac pacemaker this machine generates a low level magnetic field. If you use a cardiac pacemaker and feel abnormalities, please move away from this machine and consult your physician immediately." We live in a small apartment and I did not want my husband to have any problems with his pacemaker, so I put the manual back in the bo...

I had my checkup yesterday and found out that I am now pacemaker dependent. In 2005 I found out I had Right bundle branch block. In 2009 when exercising the LBBB also failed for a short period. They put in a Medtronic Adapta DR pacemaker in immediately. Since 2009 the LBBB and pacemaker were sharing the load. Has anyone purchased the Pace Alert Mini and if so can you comment on how well it worked? Did it work as expected?

I live in Pennsylvania near Hershey Park. It's an amusement park with a Hershey chocolate theme. I love going every summer...are my amusement park days over? I thought I read something about roller coaster power generators interfering with PMs?

I want to go home to visit my parents, but they are having underground fencing put in. Will it interfere with my device? I'm afraid I might step into their yard, and be fried to a crisp. Ive almost had mine for a year, and I have been very careful with it.
If someone could just let me know, if there are warnings about this, that would be great. Thank you.

Hi, can anyone advise? I have had my PM 3 weeks and have noticed feeling a bit queasy twice whilst checking out at my supermarket. There is a lot of electronic gadgetry around the check out tills with tills, card readers etc. Does anyone know if they can affect a PM, or am I getting a little paranoid? Any sensible views would be welcome! I'm not nuts , honest. No really....I think.
Thanks
Roy

Last week I was at a sleep lab testing various CPAP solutions for my apnea and was hooked up to monitoring equipment.
About 10 minutes into the test I felt what I could only describe as a shock to my left upper arm and chest which started shaking. This lasted a few seconds and then again a few minutes later. I called the technician who removed the monitoring belt from my chest and the rest of the test proceded without problems.
I’ve had my PM since July and ne...
