Patient requesting for an ICD

I am Mr. Joselito Albert S. Frilles, separated with 3 children.. I'm
from the Philippines. I have ICD implanted to me July of 1999. The
device model is Gem DR 7271, serial #PIM301148R. I worked with San
Miguel Corporation before and they payed for all my hospital bills and
the ICD.
They didn't hire me anymore because of my health condition. At present
i'm jobless. The doctor advised me to have a new ICD.
I'm writing you to ask for your help sir. My doctor sa...

Just a thank you

Hi to all:
I was just looking for new blinds on-line, and decided to pop into the site to see what's been happening since I haven't been on-line for a while. I've also been feeling sorry for myself lately. Well, sure enough, reading all the posts and all the encouragement you all give each other made me feel so much better. I know this will be a lifelong thing, but I also realize how far I've come since last November 2010 when I got my ICD placed. You all have no idea how you've helped...

New comer

Hi my name is Susan. I’m getting my first ICD and am very scared. I was told that since I am a small frame person with not a lot of fat that it will show and it will be kind of like a pebble in my shoe, this sounds uncomfortable. They are going to implant it closer to my arm because there is more fat there.  I asked if after a while will I not notice it is there; I was told no you will always know it is there and it will be uncomfortable. Please someone help me understand why it has t...

Feeling better!!!

I have been offline for sometime, but I’m back.  ICD placed 10/10/10.  EF was 11.  I just went to my EP.  While I continue to work only 24hrs/week my EF is now 40!!!  Not being cleared for more work until possibly May.  I’m a 40 y.o. nurse in a hospital.  High stress and high paced.  Just thought I would share. Take care everyone and thanks to all of you who have wished me well.

Tingling

I was just wondering....does anyone have any problems with tingling ( it's like burning needles inside my skin) since their device. I had a pacemaker/defibrillator installed 11/05 and the tingling/burning started in 1/06. It can happen anywhere in the body ( and I mean anywhere) at any certain time. I do notice that it is worse when I eat something with more salt (i never add salt to anything anymore) . I have had all kinds of tests, and none of the doctors ( most the tests have been done a...

ICD explant including leads

Hi to all members!

I posted a message several weeks ago that my husbands' ICD got infected after the doctors have done revision for the pulse generator. He had a month of IV antibiotics in the hospital and doctors decided to do a thoracotomy procedure to explant the whole system out last Friday 22 January. Had anyone experience this procedure. Is that the only way the ICD leads can be taken out?

St Judes home monitor

Hello everyone , I have had, since 1988, 9 pacemakers fitted the last one of which was a St Judes fitted last year due to an infection in the previous one caused by a fall and damage to the pacemaker site. I have also been given a home monitor which is supposed to keep check on my 'performance'. As far as a check towards the end of last year this was working fine but over the last few days my moitor had started to bleep on the 'tower' sign during the day for some reason and I have had to reset....

Certainly there are "unnecessary ICD's" but the majority of the unnecessary devices are implants that would not be performed by talented up to date cardilogists or electrophysiologists ( i.e. no RECENT MI or NEW CHF.)
I always enjoy explaining media hyped stories to my patients who become skeptical after a news flash. Maybe we should focus on the the fact that 1/12 implants done appropriately will have life saving therapy at 18 months. I hope all the media hype doesn't prevent lifesav...

Hi.  I am 66 years old and had a heart attack at 48 whilst a top long distance runner.  Had a bypass 4 years later.  They did 5 bypasses so I could go back to running.  Never did return to running, but took up badminton for 14 wonderful years until I collapsed in Jan 2010 whilst playing badminton. Heart stopped 4 times during next 2 days and was unconscious for 2 weeks with body covered in ice. Recovered and fitted with a defibrillator. Got up to brisk walking 5 to 6...

Somewhat scared, any thoughts?

Had an ICD implanted 2 days before thanksgiving, 2010. All was well until 12-16, when I got the shock of a lifetime. Bright flash of light, like an explosion going off inside my body. They have since adjusted my meds, and say that I should get better as time goes. I am a 45 y/o male who is way nervous of being alone. I have been seperated with my wife for 2 1/2 years with divorce looming. This thing in my chest scares the daylights out of me. It has been tough on me. I am trying hard to be posit...

A study that included more than 100,000 patients who received implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) found that about 20 percent did not meet evidence-based guidelines for receipt of an ICD, and that these patients had a significantly higher risk of in-hospital deat...

Hope everyone has been enjoying the Holidays. I have had my CRT-D for almost 6 months now and have not had a pain free day yet. I hope I am not getting my hopes up too fast but I started out with a EF of 20 according to the cardiologist and 4 months after my CRT-D was put in he said I was in the 30 range and that wasn’t quite what he expected. I have had people tell me they had the same problem and it took them 2 yrs for the Heart Muscle to improve.

What was weird is that last...

Any advice?

I just found this website, and am very excited to read other people's experiences with icd. I had my first one put in 8/05 and had it replaced in 6/08 because of recall. I never knew that I was sick, just thought I was getting old and that would be the reason why I couldn't walk more than 3 house without stopping. I was 60 at the time. I was wondering if anyone else ever gets any tingling through out their body. My tingling started about 4 months after having the icd, and it can happen anywh...

pacing now

I went for a pacer check up. They turned on my pacer and set it for 60 bpm.. That was last week. Today I feel funny and I checked my pulse and its running at 80..
I thought the pacer would keep me at 60 all the time
I also feel like its skipping a lot and I feel funny inside.
Is this usual or abnormal. I guess I should call my pm dr tomorrow and see what they say..
Any body else experienced this befor.?

One Year Anniversary

Happy Holidays Everyone!

December 9th with be one year since the implantation of my Boston Scientific CRT-D/ICD. So far no problems and I remain incredibly grateful for the device and the doctors on my team.

However, the site location is still from time to time "slightly" sore.
I attribute that to a number of things, my sleeping positions, exercising, the ol' seatbelt interference...and realizing that there is a rather large chunk of metal in my chest.

Anyone on Tikosyn

They want me to go on Tikosyn on 12/27/2010 for A-Fib. I have been on all the other drugs already with no success. I don't no if it will take me out of A-Fib. If not then I get a abalation operation.

Any information on Tikosyn or abalations would be great
Thanks, Don

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
