I am 21 years old and just had a PM implanted in January 2013. It's especially difficult for me because I never had a "normal" heart rate. I have always had a low heart rate and a doctor never once said anything about it. My heart rate before the PM always stayed in the low 50's-60's while active and low 40's while resting. I caught the flu in January 2013 and had to go to the hospital. The doctor's said my heart went dangerously low after I fell asleep. They were so worried about my heart stopp...

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the Pacemaker Club, so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Mike and I am a 27 year old male who presents with 3 previous incidents of Myocarditis dating back to 2002, 2005 and recently 2011. My first episode of myocarditis was in November of 2002 after a trip to China (July through August). I caught something while overseas (perhaps a stomach flu?) and was fine upon my return to the United States in September. In November, I developed symptoms very...

Hello everyone. I am new to this club. I discovered it about a week ago and have been reading a lot here since. Let me tell you about my problem maybe you have some good advice and can help with some more information:
My mom has discovered about 3 month ago she has low HR and checked it almost daily since. It's about 43-56. On a checkup the cardiologist sent her to emergency because of low HR and the emergency guy wanted to put a PM. She did not agree to do it in a rush since she feels fine...

My father is getting his first PM on Thursday. He is already very frail. I understand he will have very limited to no use of his left arm as he recovers. How do you manage this when he needs to use a walker now, uses a handrail to get on and off the potty, needs help getting in and out of bed and chairs?

My cardiologist wants to put a third lead in the left ventricle. They will have to make an intercostal incision, place the lead externally (I think) and then 'fish' the lead up to the pacemaker/difib. I have some concerns regarding risks and success of the procedure. If you have had this done would you please let me know your experience. I am in hopes that it will give me a better quality of living. Thank you.

Hello everyone :-)
My name is Mary and I just was given a pm for bradycardia and syncope. I was perfectly fine until last friday when i thought i was having a heart attack and my heart rate never went back above 45bpm. I recieved the dual chamber pm on my 32nd birthday this last thursday. I am so glad i came across this site since no one i know has a pm(friends tell me about their parents and grandparents experiences) and i dont know what to expect with recovery really. I have suffered with Af forthe past 4 years, had cardioversions and two ablations he last one was 16 months ago Recently I have been collapsing so it was decided that I need a Pm I am having a three lead pacemaker fitted in little over a week, I am confused as some people seem to recover reasonably quickly and others seem to be unwell months later. These may seem stupid questions but would appreciate some indication of what to expect. How soon after my pacemaker fitted will I feel like going out...

First off, let me say that I was absolutely relieved and elated to find this site. A lot of my questions have been answered yet I know I can come here in the future when other questions arise.
Anyway, I'm 31 years old, run/ride bike daily and had a pacemaker installed on May 17th.
Since the age of 5 years old, I would pass out and convulse with the onset of extreme pain or the sight of my own blood. For many years the doctors believed it was a form of epilepsy as it runs...

I am looking for answers to several questions.
Has anyone out there had Atrial Catheter Ablation?
I just had this procedure done 3 weeks ago.
My questions, how long did it take you to recover?,
I am totally out of breath with everything I do.
I am TIRED and EXHAUSTED all the time.
My doctors say this is normal and give it time, you had a major
procedure done, give yourself a little time to recover.
Anybody else had this done? How long to recove...

Hi all, my pm is working fine and seems to be doing all that's required. However it appears to now be nearer the surface than when fitted. My cardiologist thinks it may be because I've lost weight in that area, I'm not sure of that. However he has offered to re-site it deeper, behind the muscle? Has any one had this done? it has healed up really well and I don't want it to be a complication prone move, Its very tender in the area and the lead junction to the pm are very defined and sore to touch...

Hello everyone,
I am 23 years old and have been diagnosed with Neurocardiogenic syncope since I was 11 years old. I was told I would most likely grow out of it. Since I am on this website, you know that's not the case. For the past decade, my syncope has been controlled using beta-blockers. However, in the past year, I have had more events, including passing out while driving. Luckily, when I started to have the tunnel vision that occurs before all of my events, I pulled over and parked...
