Finally more pep!

Five 1/2 week after implant I finally feel better than before the implant in all ways. I can even sleep on my left size (with an extra pillow) without an discomfort, and can quell the bass drum boom-booms by tilting more towards my back. I have energy and am looking forward to an upcoming warm weather trip! I forget about the pm most of the day also. My neurologist was super happy that all my dizzy spells ceased and signed me up for the next appointment a Year from now! Now all I have to de...

Hello, I'm 43, athletic, been a personal trainer for more than 15 years and healthy..I thought? Its a month today that my life changed. I had a PM installed due to Bradycardia. I haven't yet been cleared to work or workout, my concerns are there going to be limitations to my workouts. My workouts keep me sane! Opinions and thoughts.

just about to get 1st pacemaker

hi Guys. In hospital in Panama waiting for a PM to be in stalled.
HR 35-45bpm over past two years but first time a doc did an ecg and questioned it.

Anyway I am told I am getting a dual chamber boston PM. Not sure what model but assuming S603.

My questions are about geting back into exercise afterwards. Was always active and played comp sport till 45. Then mainly gym and cycling until it all got too hard.

Love the interval training for cardio and gym...

Return to CrossFit!

I had a follow up with my cardiologist last week and all restrictions have been lifted that I had to adhere to from the PM procedure back in January. He actually lifted them two weeks earlier then planned.

I returned to CrossFit on February 27th exactly seven weeks after the procedure and have had three WODS since then with one of them being a Team WOD with my wife. I have had to scale back the weights, reps, etc; but have had no problems otherwise. I'm not ashamed to admit that my fi...

poor pacemaker selection

Hello everyone, I'm finally getting around to posing a question about pm's that I am surprised not to have seen posted yet. Perhaps that is because I am a relative newbie to the pm world. I'm a 71 y/o guy with 2 prior aortic valve replacements, now looking at a third one because of bacterial endocarditis I had last Fall, resulting in major valve damage. Before the docs realized that the valve was rapidly deteriorating, I began to have various arrhythmias culminating in rapid atrial tachycardi...

sudden HR drop

I am an athletic 70-year-old. Recently while on a elliptical trainer I noticed that my heart rate dropped suddenly from 140 to 70. And if I backed off a little bit it would pop back up to 120 or 130. It seems to be getting worse. More recently this rate drop happened at 120 and went down to 60.

I have worn a Holter monitor and gone to the gym to have a record of this phenomenon. I am going to talk to A nurse practitioner at the cardiologists office on Friday, When they will have the...

Today Eat Crow :-P

Who would have thought that walking around a track and doing only 2 mph on the treadmill would be harder than just walking around the house and up and down the stairs?! It must be the lights and the weight of the shoes. lol I can see that I need to do small periods of moderate walking about 3-4 times a day before I graduate to the stuff I could do before the PM implant, especially since I had dropped back on exrcise about 2 months before that due to being dizzy. My dizzyness is all gone....

Tomorrow to the gym!!!!

O.K., I'm ready and raring to go --walking around the track, that is. Also stationary bike and a little treadmill, and some safe steps on the BOSU ball, while hold on a bar with my right arm. In other words,... still a bit compromised and a wee bit tired, and following all the doctor's limitations, BUT the spirit is there and the body will follow. Also it helps that I picked up (actually bought, not stole) some snazzy, colorful exrcise pants and top! The PM won't keep me down. And really,...

Woo Hoo, Exercise!

I celebrated my 3 week PM anniversary by getting into the warm therapy pool at the gym for some very mild "Zumba" movement exercises. The fast stuff in the cold pool will come after my seven week moratorium on left arm movement ( arm above the should level or any large swimming motions) is lifted. I sort of kept my left elbow glued to my waist and did the movement in that arm with the forearm only. Still it was great to be back in the real world again. My incision is healed to the outside a...

Basis Fitness Tracker

Hi....the Basis band is a watch device that gives more feedback than the FitBit (which I use without issue). Anyone here have this new toy? I'm having difficulty finding out if it's PM compatible.

Thanks!

How much can I exercise?

Hi All
Had a three way pacemaker inserted in January and a diseased AV node terminated last week. The pacemaker is set at a constant 80bpm at the moment but this will be regulated down eventually. What effect will this have on my walking?

Trying to lose

Before I had to have the pm I was on a great health path. I had lost over 20lbs and 2" off my waist. I put on weight fast during my recovery and it has been tough to get it back off. I run 2-3 times a week 3-4 miles and do aerobic the other days to save the joints from too much torture.
Here's the weird part. My issue was a very low HR (27 sleeping) and it got up nicely when I exercised. I feel like even though it doesn't drop below 60 now I can't seem to get it over 140 working out. I'd l...

Cricket

Hi all,

I know most of you are based over in the US, but do any pacemaker people out there play cricket?? If so, any recommendations on padding for the pacemaker? I'm struggling to find any suitable products... that might be telling me something!

Thanks,

Rob

Pacemaker adjustments

I have a RR pacemaker by medtronic. I'm not on amy other meds. I had a very low heart rate ( 35-40) and symptoms- shortness of breath- before implantation. My issue is only my sinus node.
I'm thinking that maybe my lower limit needs to be adjusted up. I'm set at 55bpm now and wonder if I'm getting enough "juice" at this rate. Had it adjusted for the first time last week. They moved the upper limit from 130 to 150 which seems to work better as I was regularly hitting 130. Adjusted the time...

Borrowing my friends legs

I fired my body a while back. It doesn't like to cooperate and the more I force it, the more it fights back. Stubborn. Wonder where it learned that.

I've been working on shedding baby weight by eating clean and being as active as my body will allow. (it isn't much) A friend of mine is doing the same and we have been each others cheerleaders. I saw on her facebook this morning she is walking the American Heart Association mini 5k next month. She doesn't have heart disease and I though...

Walking

Thanks very much for the comments. Very helpful.

Regarding stress on the leads, I was told that walking was more than ok. Intuitively, it doesn't seem that normal walking pulls upward, and could interfere with the leads accomplishing a secure attachment. I have been very mindful of that. Point is: there are also risks to not walking: weight gain, de-conditioning, loss of flexibility. At 71 it isn't easy to get theses things back. Plus, the walking serves your mental health as well. Bu...

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
