Pacer noise

I have had discovery 1283 for about 6 years -I have this noise that is like morris code or tapping at different times of the day. I notice it most at night. Would it be some type of setting that is monitoring me. I have been assured that the pacer has no moving parts so it is not possible, however I think I know a heart beat and a tapping sound with a bit of rythm. If anyone has any ideas I would like them. Getting PM adjusted...again

I had my pacemaker adjusted this past Wednesday for the first time. The goal was to help me sleep better. Well, it didn't work. Still woke up many times during the night and still felt a "flicking" sensation in my chest.

So, my doctor wants to see me again this afternoon. I hate missing so much work. I'm going to have to come in on the weekend just to catch up.

Very frustrated at this point and the doctor is already talking about putting me on sleeping pills, which I'd...

Pacer self check

I was going to reply to the question of the self check below but it has already gone way down the page, so I thought I would post a new message. I have my self check set at 09:45 on a Tuesday. I like it then as I am aware when it happens and I know that my PM is still working. Every now and then I may be doing something active at this time such as a bodypump class. I still feel it kick in at the same time, but something tells the pacemaker check that this is not a good time. The check stopss and...

First check up down..

Hey all...just wanted everyone to know that I had my one-week check up today and things are looking good. I got the staples out (and almost passed out in the process), and my incision looks awesome...no swelling!!! All the tests looked good, and I was able to get my self-test time changed to 3am and my sleep mode adjusted a bit, so I can get a good nights sleep and hopefully sleep through the self test. I am currently using my PM 11% of the time - not bad in the grand scheme, but enough to ma...

Fluid build up

I read several people's questioning of the need to have fluid monitors. Fluid build up is a sign the heart ain't ticking too well..in fact the worse it works the more fluid you have and eventually you become short of breath, are tired, have no energy etc...sound familiar?
I take Aldactone for fluid retention rather than lasix. My monitor went off for the first time since September 2007...scared the s..t out of me...I think it is the fluid monitor because I have been short of breath lately.<...

2 week follow up today

Well, I go in for my two week follow-up today. I plan to let my cardiologist and my electro-physiologist both know about this website and recommend that they tell people with and getting PM's or ICD's about it. Also, I can feel my PM when it starts beating for my heart, I presume that this is nor normal and will be asking them about that as well. I will let everyone know how things go.

PM armpain 4months

Hi all, well I have had my PM 4months now. Had my settings changed 2weeks ago, they put it in passive mode. That helped with the heart beat in my throat, probleming I was having. My PM was put nearly in my armpit so they had already turned the movement censor off. My arm was doing so good ,pained only now and then if I moved a wrong way.I am left handed so my PM is on the right side,I know this sounds crazy but since the settings change 2 wks ago, my arm gets like a bad cramp in the upper part and...

Checkup and Replacement Info

I just finished my checkup and all is great. The current prevarication is that this pacer should easily last another year.

While I was there and the cardiologist was in a talkative mood, I ask about the replacement procedure. This was at 9:00AM and he said if I had needed a replacement today he would have ask me to skip lunch and meet him at the outpatient clinic this afternoon. He figured it would take less than an hour. I ask him about how he handles the issue of my being 100% depe...

Is my pacing off?

Hi all...
So glad to find someone to talk to about the issues that come with having a PM running my heart!
I am a 48 y/o female who has managed to lose 90 lbs over 3 years simply by determination, exercise, sweat & tears. I am an avid spinner, spinning a minimum of 4 days a week and doing cardio/strength on off day. I was diagnosed with AF in 2000 and have undergone 3 ablations; the last being in 12/08 with a successful flutter elimination. I felt GREAT! . While being cleared to have...

I AM SO UPSET!

Hello, people. I have both sinus tachycardia (Afib) and bradycardia so I had my pacemaker put in in October (13th)for the bradycardia. I had complications of a collapsed lung so was in the hospital 9 days. About 2 weeks after I got home, I felt like a shocking sensation one night and the next day I bent to reach over the side of the chair and felt a worse shock. I suddenly saw my pulse that was usually in the 60's go into the high 80's and 90's. Apparently, I pulled out my lead, but no one seeme...

Question 4 U.K. pacers

I am 8 weeks post pm and have yet to see a cardiologist. I had my first pacer checkup 2 weeks ago and mentioned that I still wasn't sure exactly what I had, although reading up about it and having advice from this site I think I have AV block, but my pm tech said it mentioned SSS in my notes, and I heard at one stage Wenkebach mentioned but that was just before I was rushed in to have the pm fitted.
I was just curious how long others waited to see someone after! I know that things are done...

Thanks for the rate response response !

Thanks Tracy E , Hot heart, Mary Anne for the response about the very fast HR form just getting up and walking . Yes The rate response setting must be on. Before I got the PM I was doing the eliptical trainer at level 10 on the difficult setting for 40 mins. 3 - 4 times a week and my HR would stay around 130 - 135. Now just after getting up my HR shoots up within 10 seconds to fast to count. So.. ...tomrorrow I'l call the doc about this rate response setting . Thanks Y'all. You are the best!! Wr...

Pacemaker Needs To Work FAR Less

I learned, at my latest pacemaker clinic visit, that when initially installed in 1996, my pacemaker was working over 20% of the time.

My latest check-up revealed that, TODAY, it needs to kick in 1.8% of the time--a HUGE drop in 13 years!

What I want to know is: in a few years, if this trend continues, will i even need a pacemaker at ALL any more?

I know that such things have happened. i hope it happens to ME!

fast heart rate when waking quickly

It will be 5 weeks since I had my Medtronics dual chamber Pm. Today I went to do a pacer check. They changed my rate from 60/130 to 50/150 because I was occasionally getting lightheaded and shortness of breath. Now I notice when I get up and begin to walk quickly , my heart will immediately begin to beat very fast . After I stop the rate will begin to slow down after 30 - 45 seconds. Is this normal for the heart "race'' like that when I begin to walk quickly? Thanks for your help..

Pacemaker wakes me up at 4:39am now

Hello everyone,
I am pretty new to all this, I am 3 month post pm. Since the time change my pacemaker wakes me up at 4:39am and it didn't before the time change. Do they do some kind of reset or maintenance to itself during the night? I don't see my clinic for quite a while since I just had a check and forgot to ask. At that time it had only happened once so didn't make the connection. It only happens for a few beats but I can feel it almost "test" the chambers and then it is gone....
