Good afternoon,
Does anyone lift weighs with their ICD?
I have an ICD/CRT-D and I've always have lifted light to moderate that is...NOT bodybuilder. However, after I had a v-tach storm five months ago...I've pretty much avoided it...other than light isometrics.
My EP says to do what I'm comfortable with and go easy.
Thanks!
Ron
Thanks to all the encouraging posts

Found out I needed pacemaker on the same day as surgery (7/15/13) for third degree heart block. Have a dual lead st.Jude. I believe that symptoms had been coming on for a long time I.e. shortness of breath and lightheadedness, but I dismissed them as no one that I know of in my family has had heart issues and I have always been quite active, having been a serious marathoner in my 30's- I'm 54 now. I want to improve my conditioning as I don't feel as energetic as I think I should or could. I don...

Greetings pacemakers!! Just thought I would share some of my experience to do with gym exercise with a pacemaker. I had a Medtronic dual chamber pm fitted in 2007 for brady/tachy syndrome and it settled down very well. Last year a couple of changes, Medtronic provided a remote monitor so I could send a report on the pm every three months. Also I was enrolled with exercise physiologists in a gym program two days a week. After twelve months I was told by Veteran Affairs that I should now know what...

Is it ok to do overhead press with hand weights ? On my pacemaker side, I cannot raise my arm as straight as the other. Its probably because I babied it too much !

I did not mow. By the time I got to her house her husband had it done, but I did drive out in the country twice by myself yesterday. That is a big step for me because I try to stay very close to the ER's and my doctor. It was so nice to sit outside and grill burgers and for once not totally focus on my heart. I felt a few things here and now but getting out and being in the sunlight and wind felt so so good. Thanks ya couldn't have done it without ya.

I was asked by a friend to help mow her yard. Its a huge yard but its a riding lawn mower. I am paced 100% of the time, will this affect my pacemaker?
I woke up with fast heart rate this am of 100 and very hot but I have been checking it and it is right were it is suppose to be.
I need to get out of this house. To scared to do anything, but this lady has done a lot for me and I would love to return the favor.
Please let me know if this should be ok.

Got my PM one year ago today. I can say I feel great and look forward to each day with a new view of life. I've been given new energy and a chance to live a long and enjoyable life.
Thank you Doctor. Thank you PM and thank you God.

Hi Everyone,
I am so excited to have found this site. My eight-year old daughter has had a pacemaker since she was 11 days old and you'd never know it. She takes full advantage of all life has to offer and enjoys every minute of it.
Her biggest disappointment is that we do not let her do gymnastics. She is currently in summer camp that has given her a taste (in a safe way) to all that she has been missing and she is proving that she would be great at it if we let her go...

Three and a half months after surgery and I am still going into atrial Fib when I climb stair, or exert myself. I went to an arena for a concert and after climbing about 20 average stairs at a slow pace I couldn't breath. Will this get better? Doctors keep telling me the PM is doing just what it is suppose to do. I am scheduled to return to work in mid August and don't feel as if there is any way I can do my job. Do I just need to get myself into better condition with more strenuous exercise.<...

I had a pacemaker implanted about a year ago. Does anyone know if using the exercise bike's handles at the gym that gives you the heart rate interfere with the functioning of the pacemaker?

I signed up for a "boot camp" (my Junior Chamber of Commerce chapter was offering a special rate). Others have described it as similar to crossfit. I've never done crossfit before, so does anyone know if this is OK with a pm?

I've had a pacemaker for a couple of years, and until recently I was able to jog at a reasonable pace (for a 60-year-old) for maybe up to 8kms. I would wear a heart monitor and the pulse would hit around 148 - 155 and I felt good. The hospital re-set my pacemaker and suddenly when I jogged the pulse would only go up to around 125-130 and consequently I ran out of energy, and could only manage 2-3 kms maximum. If I ran slower the pulse got slower, so whatever speed I ran at the pacemaker was too...

Hi I have had my pacemaker for two weeks and am amazed at the difference in energy levels and how much easier it is to breathe.
Has anyone run marathons or half marathons after the implant and if so what was it like compared to prior to getting a pacemaker? Also how long before you can swim again? My dr said not too because of the overhead arm motion nut didn't say for how long.
Could heat/humidity cause this?

I'm a newbie. Have Got 100% AV block. Got my PM 4 weeks ago and had a check this week. Dr said I could start to resume normal activities, so Thurs I went for a short outside walk in Tucson AZ (warm and very humid for us right now). Before PM I used to do this walk with no problem. First part is up hill. Felt winded and like walking in sand, flats seemed OK then downhill to house. Checked my HR: in the 60's. I would have expected 100's then settling to 80's. Repeated the same walk the ne...
