8 more days
Morning All,
I'm counting down. It will be 8 more days until I get my ICD implated. Still a bit anxious....just want to get it done and over with so that I don't have to think about it anymore. I'm trying to prepare myself...I'm not sure how I will put on a blouse or top since you can't lift your arm high enough. I suppose I'll figure it out. I must say that I'm so thankful to have found this site. It has given me a lot reassurance, courage and strength. Thanks to you all.

I'm new
Hello,
I have been diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and learned on Wednesday that I need to have an ICD implated. I am waiting for the surgery coord to call me so that I can schedule the procedure. Can anyone tell me if you are put to sleep for the procedure? Also, I'm taking lots of medicines for my condition and I'm wondering will I still have to take the meds with and ICD? Thank you for your reply!

Heart making new paths
Ok as if things with the heart are not complicated enough, I really need some help with this one. In april of this year had complete av node ablation and last year had sinus node ablated with only 5% of sinus node working. The past month I have had issues and when I went to the dr today he said that my atrial pacing was down to 74%.
Well then he had decided to lower my from 70 to 50 so as he puts it "we can really see what the heart is doing". Let me just say I'm NOT liking it. For on...
First event
I have had my ICD for five years now, and just last week I had my first experience with my device. The first shock felt almost like a shock wave hit me from behind. I went to the ground and realized fairly quickly what had happened. Although I felt pretty well after the first shock, my device shocked me an additional 3 times. I was taken to the hospital and kept overnight for tests the following day. Apparently the device arrested racing in my left ventricle. That is what it was put in place to...
Resetting Parameters
Hello. I have had this unnerving thuds in my chest off and on for at least a month now. They are not painful and when I check my blood pressure/heart rate everything was normal. No irregular heartbeat detected or anything. I finally called my EP and they said I needed to come in so they can change the parameters of my ICD settings (just had it replaced March 11). Has anyone experienced this? The nurse explained that it was some kind of nerve stimulation that was causing it and they need to try t...
Missing av node spikes
Hi all,
I just had a few questions..for anyone who has not read my posts before my sa and av node have been ablated. I recently had a stress done last week and it showed that I am at times having some activity from my own sinus node and not the pacemaker. This puzzled the dr cause of last month when I had my last ablation it was not working at all and my atrail pacing is not 80% instead of the 95% it was 3 weeks ago.
What is really bothering now is after seeing myself on t...
biventricular
Hi Everyone, I am a 61 year old male that had total cardiac arrest back in 2010. Had a pacemaker/icd implanted. Since, everything seemed to be going great, I was only pacing at 10% and have not been shocked to this point. My EF went to almost 50%. In the past few months I have felt tried and a little more short of breath. My last echo showed my EF had dropped to 30%. My doctor wants to go back and put in a bi-ventricular pacemaker. What can I expect from this? I guess I am more than a little con...
Relieved to of found this place
Brand new here. I'm 57, male, have a wife and 6 kids. 18 years ago I contracted endocarditis (sp) from some dental work. I had an aortic valve implant and 10 days later a pacemaker implant.
My pacemakers seems to last about 6 years. 2nd one in 2000, 3rd one is 2006.
I now have been told by cardiologist I need to upgrade to Bi-Vent AICD because my EF is at 20%. I'm very nervous and don't know what to expect on how I will adjust to the upgraded features (being shocked). Their lite...
Tattoo Over Pm Area?
Hello everyone!
I read a thread earlier this week about a member looking to get a tattoo over the ICD area and i figured i would ask my own specific question. Im 22 Years old, athletic build, and not 100% reliant on my PM. In fact, my main lead detached while playing hockey when i was 18 (i received permission to play puck from my cardiologist) and i didnt know it happened until i went for my monthly check up! I recently graduated from a 4 year school and i asked my parents if my grad...
Help!!
I went back to my dr yesterday for a follow up appt for what we thought was percarditis and come to find out my dr thinks that my IST is trying to come back and that I have a waundring pacemaker up in my sinus node. 2 weeks ago when I went to him I was having symtoms of chest pain, back pain, shortness of breath and palpations and he thought for sure it was pericarditis so he put me on steroids with did not help. I have went from 95% to 85% atrial pacing in just 2 weeks ( av node still 100% pace...

Not a thorough scientific study but some food for thought.
Apparently iPads and SmartCovers MIGHT put ICDs into magenet mode under some circumstances.
Impressivecwork for a 14 year old!

Pocket revision
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone on here has has a pocket revision for their pacemaker and what kind of recovery it takes. My pacemaker is about to poke through my skin, you can see lead wires and whenever something just grazes arcoss my skin it feels like a razor blade going over it. The plan is to have it put under the pectoral muscle. I have my consult with the surgeon next monday so I will be able to ask questions but I was just trying to get a little information before I go. I a...

Hi All: Nice to have found this web site. My heart issues begain in 2000 with two heart attacks, one causing extensive damage to my heart and one resolved with a stent. My echos a while after the heart attacks was about 45EF. Last October my EP did another echo and found my EF had dropped to between 10-15. I was in shock. Then in late December I wound up in the local hospital for an ecoli infected gall bladder where they did a cath which showed I had my last good artery blocked at 85-90%....
end of the wire..
Hi ya'all... just want to ask those of you with all the experiences..Does it matter that my ICD has fallen a few cm.s along 'till it is now at the end of the wire? I'm sure that some of you have been there and done that. I do see tech next week. Thanks!! in advance. I really value your opinions. Bev of NC
Advice
My name is Kristen, I am 27 years old. The last few years have been really hard on me. I had an injury to my back that compressed my Vagus nerve ( no test can prove this) but I was a perfectly healthy individual before the incident. After I started going through random heart rates always to the extreme, either extremely low to extremely high, light headedness, and I started blacking out, and even on medication my problems persisted. I had a icm implanted and it caught an episode of V-tech 250 bp...
Looking for used/explanted devices
Hi there, I'm looking to get ahold of explanted ICD's - a couple of models in particular (St Jude Promote/Current). This is for research purposes and my firm will happily pay for the devices.
Please reach out to me if you can help.

Just shy of 4weeks since I was implanted. I'm having a pulling sensation around leads - Is this to be expected?
voltage
My g/f has an ICD that periodically gives her shocks (as intended) Please tell me about what voltage (I guess DC) these 'shocks" are. I have read several articles - ranging from 20v dc? 220 v dc?? I seriously doubt it gives anything close to 100 v as this is internal! I relate this to the mild shock people with sliver dental fillings and tinfoil touching them- that gave a mild (yeah very mild, micro volts) shock- but was uncomfortable as it was on the nerve ending! SO back to ICD- what...
You know you're wired when...
You have a dymo-powered bike.
